The target of a Balgrayhill Community Centre is to serve as a local, accessible hub that fosters community cohesion, improves the health and wellbeing of residents, and provides a space for social and recreational activities.

Our centre is designed to be inclusive, offering support for all ages and diverse groups to reduce social isolation and address local needs.

Key targets and objectives include:
  • Community Cohesion: Creating a “third space” (separate from home and work) that acts as a safe, welcoming, and neutral meeting place for residents.
  • Reducing Isolation and Improving Wellbeing: Providing activities that promote social interaction, such as hobby groups, and offering services for older people or those at risk of loneliness.
  • Providing Essential Local Services: Serving as a “one-stop” location for accessing information.
  • Empowering Local People: Offering volunteering opportunities and fostering a sense of pride and ownership in the local area.
  • Economic Development: Supporting the local economy through job training, providing workspaces for small businesses, and facilitating community-led initiatives.
  • Sustainability: Operating as financially sustainable and, increasingly, environmentally friendly spaces.
Core Functionality:
  • Multi-use Spaces: Providing flexible, bookable spaces for events, meetings, and parties.
  • Social Connectivity: Serving as a focal point for people to meet and build networks.
  • Physical Asset Management: Maintaining a physical building for the benefit of the community.
